US Military Targeted a 'Big Complex' in Venezuela, Trump Asserted Without Offering Details.

Former President Trump has asserted that American forces targeted a "major facility" in Venezuela last week. Yet, the ex-leader offered no details on the exact nature or location of the strike, and officials have issued no further comment from his team.

Vague Remarks Offered In a Radio Show

"US forces just destroyed – I don't know if you heard – they have a big plant, where the ships depart from. Recently, we took it out. So we hit them decisively," Trump reportedly told GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Potential Significance of a Verified Attack

If a US military action is confirmed, it would mark the initial attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense initiated a expansion of American strike forces in the Caribbean region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the former administration asserts operate under the direction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The stated purpose of the military buildup has evolved into a blockade aimed at stopping the nation's oil exports.

Social Media Video and Official Claims

Trump has for some time warned that American military units are poised to escalate the operations by attacking objectives inside Venezuela, a tactic that would in theory require legislative authorization.

Video footage circulated on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an explosion allegedly from an industrial area in Zulia state. But, the video or the facility has not been corroborated.

An administration official reportedly informed a news network that the president was referring to a drug facility in his remarks.

Response and Current Military Situation

The Caracas administration has not commented on the event Trump referenced. Furthermore, there have been no verified accounts from Venezuela about it.

The deployment of US military in the area – a posture certain officials have termed a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the largest maritime enforcement action of the Trump era.

Officials have avoided from describing the action as a blockade, but have acknowledged that around 15,000 service members are stationed across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and Coast Guard cutters to implement existing sanctions.
